PORT OF CATANIA




The port of Catania consists of an artificial basin protected to the east by the east pier and to the south by the midday pier. It is divided into three areas: Porto Vecchio, Porto Nuovo and Porto Peschereccio.

Dangers: access to the port is dangerous in the presence of winds from the II quadrant which cause considerable undertow.

Access: max speed 5 knots. Fishing and pleasure boats must leave the route free for boats assigned to port services (Pilots, moorers and tugs) when they are engaged in maneuvers with ships bound for or coming from the docks of the port of Catania.

Lighthouses and beacons: 2796 (E 1828) - Sciara Biscari lighthouse, with white flashes, lasting 5 sec., range 22 M, on the west side of the outer port, near the Rotonda della Plaia; 2798 (E 1835) - alternating white and green lighthouse of Catania Airport (Fontanarossa), occasionally visible about 2,720m SW of the Sciara Biscari lighthouse; 2802 (E 1830) - long green flashes, 5 sec. range 8 M on the head of the eastern pier; 2804 (E 1832.5) - light with long red flashes, 5 sec., range 5 M, on the head of the South cliff; 2808 (E 1831) - green flashing light, period 2 sec., range 5 M, on the wall of the triangular quay of the Molo di Levante (visible from 355° to 175°); 2812 (E 1832) - red flashing light, period 2 sec., range 5 M, on the extremity of the brush that protrudes from the southern edge of the head of the Molo di Mezzogiorno

Prohibitions: view the Ord. N°03/2008 which regulates berthing in the port. In port waters and in external waters it is prohibited: 1. the sinking of dead bodies; 2. the laying of buoys or buoys; 3. wash the nets or other fishing gear; 4. the idle parking of any vessel or craft without having obtained the prior authorization of the Catania Port Authority, subject to the opinion of the Catania Port Authority for commercial aspects; 5. fishing and any other activity that is not directly connected with maritime traffic, such as sailing competitions, bathing, diving, etc… 6. throwing away any material and/or substances that may pollute marine waters.
Winds: I and II quadrants (winter and autumn); north-east wind (in spring/summer), fourth quadrant (spring).

Areas reserved for pleasure craft
Fishing and pleasure boats can moor at the quays of the fishing port, excluding the stretches of quay in front of petrol stations; on the east side of the fishing pier; along the "Dogana" quay excluding the stretch of quay licensed to the Catania Nautical Club and the Etneo Nautical Diporto; along the quay of the old pier excluding the section used by the Guardia di Finanza, the Fire Brigade and the State Police. Inside the port there are also several floating pontoons under concession to private individuals and/or associations (NIC Nautical Club, Tamata Sailing Club, Mediterranea Yachting Club, Catania Nautical Club, Etneo Nautical Diporto and Assimar which has a pontoon suitable for mooring boats up to 20 m equipped with water and electricity columns on the Crispi pier.
